Today, May 9, 2025, the situation between India and Pakistan remains highly tense following India's "Operation Sindoor" earlier this week, a military action in response to a terror attack in Pahalgam on April 22. Here's a summary of the latest developments:

  • Blackout in Border Areas: A blackout was enforced overnight in Jammu, Srinagar, and several other cities. In Punjab, a total blackout was in place until 5 am today. Similar measures were taken in border districts of Rajasthan.  
  • Air Sirens in Chandigarh: Air sirens were activated in Chandigarh this morning following a warning from the Air Force Station about a potential aerial attack from Pakistan. Residents have been asked to stay indoors.  
  • India Claims to Foil Attacks: The Indian Army stated that it effectively repulsed multiple attacks by Pakistan along the western border overnight using drones and other munitions. They claim to have intercepted at least eight Pakistani missiles in the Jammu region.  
  • Pakistan's Claims: Pakistan had earlier claimed that Indian drones attacked its territory, resulting in civilian casualties and damage to a military site near Lahore. They also claimed to have shot down several Indian drones.

  • Chief Minister in Jammu: Jammu and Kashmir Chief Minister Omar Abdullah is in Jammu to assess the situation following last night's "failed drone attack" on Jammu city.  
  • India at IMF: India's Foreign Secretary stated that India would present its concerns regarding loans to Pakistan at today's International Monetary Fund (IMF) board meeting, urging careful scrutiny of any further financial support to Pakistan.  
  • US Advisory: The United States has reportedly asked its citizens in Lahore to leave the city or seek shelter, indicating potential security concerns.  
  • Fake News: India's Press Information Bureau (PIB) is actively debunking fabricated videos and fake news circulating online regarding attacks in India.
